Dear E-Druggers,
Pharmaceutical public health is an emerging field in global health, and global health needs a generation of policy-makers who understand the relevance of coherent and integrated pharmaceutical systems. We are therefore happy to announce that the fifth iteration of course on Pharmaceutical Policies in Health Systems, organized at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Belgium, in academic collaboration with the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, will take place -in English- in Antwerp, from 26th May to 13th June 2025. Those interested can apply until 15 January 2025, at https://www.itg.be/en/study/courses/pharmaceutical-policies-in-health-systems/2024-2025?tab=about-the-course
In short, the aim of this 3-week, in-person course is to enable participants to develop a general understanding of the individual components of pharmaceutical systems, and of the whole system they constitute together; and a practical understanding of those specific components on/by which they may have a direct impact, according to their role, responsibility and context. In addition, participants who are specialists in specific fields will be guided to frame their knowledge within a multidisciplinary perspective. The short course is targeting advanced students from high-, middle- and low-income countries working at different levels in the Ministry of Health, health programmes, regulatory agencies, NGOs, global health initiatives and other donor agencies, procurement, health insurance, etc… Importantly, the course is not only targeting specialists in specific pharmaceutical topics.
In 2024, the teaching faculty included Cécile Macé, Veronika Wirtz, Hazel Bradley, Renier Coetzee, Els Torreele, Wilbert Bannenberg, Katrina Perehudoff, Klara Tisocki, Belen Tarrafeta, Saleh Aljadeeah, Cathrin Hauk, Liselotte Hardy, Luca Libassi, Nico Vandaele, Catherine Decouttere, Albert Figueras, Koen Peeters, René Gerrets, Bruno Meessen, Rodrigo Henriquez, Jo Robays and Raffaella Ravinetto.
