Surely part of the debate should revolve around reducing
injection use by replacing drugs which require injection
with oral preparations. For example at PHC level apart from
tetanus toxoid and other vaccines and ergometrine injections
can be replaced. If we got rid of Vit B Co and replaced procaine
Penicillin, chloroquin injection and streptomycin we could
reduce injection use substantially.

If we look at the many drug use indicator surveys that have been
done we see a dramatic range of injection use from over 65% in
some West African countries to 0.02% in Bangladesh.

This is another strategy for improving injection safety.
