AIDS in Africa (14)
-------------------
Carl Webb,
You are some interesting person I will like one day to meet, after
your contributions on AIDS in Africa and the following rejoinder you
sent to place your actual views on the subject and the one on Casual
sex workers.
Interesting to note, it has created a wonderful discussion for and
against. This is not to counter the claims of who ever initiated it
that you saw and shared with us. But it is a layman's request for a
more in depth research into the claims before we discard them.
You see, I have seen some people diagnosed positive and negative by
different medical labs.
The use of expired and substandard chemicals goes in so many loca-
tions unchecked. This is not to mention the level of fake drugs al-
ready in the market and in the hands of self medicating individuals.
Some years ago, all ailments that have a touch of the unknown, are
said to be associated with mysticism, voodoo or fetish. These days
every one of them goes for HIV/AIDS.
The level of other sex practices than the hetero, is not even men-
tioned in most parts of our world, but they exist in high propor-
tions.
I have seen statistical figures from reputable individuals and or-
ganizations, but as in the case of Nigeria and I believe many other
developing nations, true reliable numbers do not exist.
So while we hold to what we know, it will do us more good to try and
understand, the variant view, it will help knowledge at the end of
the day.
Now before I receive a valentines day crucifixion like my dear Webb,
who seems to be writing from Abuja Nigeria or some where close, I ap-
preciate coordinator's magnamity, to allow different views come on
stream. I strongly believe in the existence of the plague and the
need to combat it with all that we have. I also believe that the in-
dividuals and governments of especially developing nations should
join in the struggle at all levels. Also the black veil associated
with it should be removed to allow even the infected have a normal
life. Not like a young friend in Abuja Nigeria, who was imprisoned in
his house till he died some days ago, before people knew he was sick
and died of AIDS.
I sincerely appreciate the contributions of all of you because it is
increasing our knowledge beyond our normal daily walls.
Have a wonderful Valentines Day, with your loved one. Remember to do
what you preach, if you must, play safe.
Happy Valentines Day.
