AIDS in Africa?? (4)
--------------------

The moderator did a wonderful job by posting Carl's "unfounded theo-
ries" on the site. As a health economist who is quite aware of the
AIDS statistics but not well-qualified scientifically to follow the
various theories, I think the world needs more information, presented
in clear terms, about this dreadful disease. AIDS must not be allowed
to become an industry for scientists to generate scientific papers
and argue beyond the comprehension of ordinary people.

Instead of dismissing Carl's explanations as unfounded I think we
should debate the issues raised by Professors Konotey-Ahulu, P.A.K.
Addy and others who think similarly. These are reputable scientists.
A scenario where prominent Western and Third World scientists hold
different views leads to what anthropologists call systemic misunder-
standing -- a condition that cannot be improved by additional scien-
tific information. While the world relies on scientists to explain
nature's mysteries, dismissing other scientist's statements as un-
founded seems a little unscientific. We do not have African science
and Western science. We only have good science.

Carl, Konotey-Ahulu and others holding different views must be de-
bated in the open. Else, the prevalence of systemic misunderstanding
will only prolong this awful pandemic.
