gies with treatment advocacy - Why and How?
A skill building session designed for advocates interested
and/or working in microbicides, HIV vaccines and treatment advo-
cacy
The session will focus on linking advocacy around prevention -
Microbicides, HIV Vaccines and other HIV prevention technologies
- to HIV treatment advocacy. The session will elaborate on vari-
ous points of entry for agencies and institutions to begin to
engage with the challenges of working in concrete ways across
Microbicides, Treatment and Vaccines (MTV). This is an emerging
agenda to expand the national and global efforts towards
stronger collaborative prevention-treatment activism, advocacy
and action. Many teaching and training materials will be made
available.
Session 1: Establishing the link between microbicide, HIV vac-
cine and treatment advocacy
Session 2: Outcomes of past deliberations and focus for action
Session 3: Moving the MTV advocacy agenda in-country

Time: 10.30-12.30

2. Introducing Microbicides to Communities
A skills building session designed for old and new advocates
What are microbicides? Where are we in the research? Where can
you get more information? How can you become more involved? How
can you integrate this into your work? How can you introduce
this new research to your communities? This skills-building ses-
sion will focus on providing participants with information,
tools and frameworks to take back to their countries so they are
better prepared to join or consider developing local advocacy
campaigns, and to develop training or awareness programmes in
their communities with respect to microbicides. It is a partici-
patory session where old advocates can share with new ones on
their various experiences on how best to move the microbicides
agenda forward. Resource materials and tool kits will be shared.
Session 1: Why the increasing urgency for microbicide research
and development
Session 2: Research and development efforts for microbicides
Session 3: Ways to effectively introduce microbicides into the
community
Session 4: Moving the microbicide advocacy agenda in-country
Theme: Advocating for Microbicides - dealing with emerging
issues
Venue: Sheraton Room 3
Facilitators: African Microbicide Advocacy Group (AMAG) and the
Nigeria HIV Vaccine and Microbicide Advocacy Group (NHVMAG)
