Stop TB is a global movement to accelerate social and political
action to stop the unnecessary spread of TB around the world.

Call for proposals -- Research & Development to fight three ma-
jor communicable diseases - HIV/AIDS, Malaria and TB

The European Commission now calls for proposals for clinical re-
search projects to address the three diseases - HIV/AIDS, Ma-
laria and TB. Their focus is on developing new effective inter-
ventions against three diseases from early discovery through
pre-clinical testing and up to early human trials.

The areas of interest include:
* New approaches for research into host/vector-pathogen interac-
tion for HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.

* Undesirable consequences of drugs and vaccines for poverty-
related diseases.

* Integration and coordination of European clinical research on
poverty-related diseases.

* Promotion of poverty-related diseases research.
European network for vaccine development covering the three dis-
eases.

* Improving participation of the private sector in poverty-
related diseases research.

* Small and medium-sized enterprise (SMEs)-driven innovations
for poverty-related diseases (for SMEs).

* Development of fast tests for diagnosis of poverty-related
diseases suitable for use in resource-poor settings (for SMEs).

* Innovative delivery mechanism for treatment and depot therapy
in poverty-related diseases (for SMEs).

The total budget for this call is approximately Euro 67 million.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 9 November 2005.

The European Commission encourages participation of relevant re-
search groups from developing countries.
