Conference on NGO Partnerships for Reproductive Health

The Centre for African Family Studies (CAFS) is organising a confer-
ence on partnerships for reproductive health in sub-Saharan Africa.
The conference will bring together actors involved in implementing
the Cairo Programme of Action in Africa. Drawing from NGO, private
and public sector experiences, this will review contributions to the
Programme of Action and the potential for continued success through
inter-sectoral partnerships. This will be a forum to collectively
formulate forward-looking strategies and build a reproductive health
network in the region.

PARTICIPANTS

This Conference will draw delegates from over 80 NGO, government de-
partments, the private sector, and donors working in reproductive
health in sub-Saharan Africa. Representatives from other regions in
the 'South' will make presentations on their regional partnership
initiatives.

OBJECTIVES

The conference aims to
- stimulate communication and collaboration among NGOs, the private
  sector and governments;
- identify priority areas for partnership for the benefit of repro-
  ductive health services
- develop a framework for partnership in implementing the ICPD Pro-
  gramme of Action.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

- Framework for a reproductive health network in sub-Saharan Africa;
- Conference proceedings published in English and French will be dis-
  tributed to all participants and also widely disseminated to other
  stakeholders;
- The outcomes of the Conference will be presented to the Partners in
  Population and Development Board.

CONFERENCE VENUE

The conference will be held at the Grand Regency Hotel in the heart
of Nairobi. Nairobi is experiencing unpredictable weather with tem-
peratures ranging from 18 - 27 degree C.

CONFERENCE LANGUAGES

The conference languages will be English and French.

ACCOMMODATION

CAFS has negotiated an accommodation package with the hotel. Accommo-
dation costs are US$ 120 bed and breakfast per day. Participants are
responsible for all accommodation and travel costs and other expenses

TRAVEL

Many participants require Visas to Kenya. When making your travel ar-
rangements please ensure you have all relevant documents i.e. return
ticket, Kenya visa and yellow fever vaccination certificate where ap-
plicable, and a valid passport. Transport will be provided from the
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the Grand Regency Hotel at no
extra cost. Please provide the Conference Secretariat with your
travel itinerary.

REGISTRATION

A non-refundable registration fee of US$ 50 is payable to CAFS.
