Third Conference on Global Strategies for the Prevention of HIV
Transmission from Mothers to Infants

September 9-13, 2001
Kampala, Uganda

The conference will focus on the prevention of the spread of HIV from
mothers to their unborn children.

A limited number of scholarships will be available to individuals
from developing countries to attend the "Third Conference on Global
Strategies for the Prevention of HIV Transmission from Mothers to In-
fants" and therefore competition will be very fierce. Preference

  HIV/AIDS transmission, care and/or treatment.
* Individuals likely to effectively communicate knowledge gained at
the conference to their scientific colleagues and their respective
  communities.
* Individuals representing diverse professional disciplines and geo-
graphic areas most affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
* Individuals who obtain partial support.
* Individuals submitting abstracts.

Completed applications and statements of recommendation must be re-
ceived by 5:00pm EST on February 1, 2001.

This international meeting is sponsored by the International AIDS So-
ciety and the American Foundation for AIDS Research in collaboration
with the Office of AIDS Research at the National Institutes of Health
and the Call to Action of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Founda-
tion.

The Harvard AIDS Institute is co-sponsoring the meeting and coordi-
nates the Developing Country Scholarship Program. Through the Devel-
oping Country Scholarship Program, scientists, health-care workers,
and public health administrators from all over the world are given
the opportunity to participate in this conference. In 1999, on behalf
of the conference organizers, the Harvard AIDS Institute awarded
scholarships to 231 individuals from 37 different developing coun-
tries from Argentina to Zimbabwe to participate in the "Second Con-
ference on Global Strategies for the Prevention of HIV Transmission
from Mothers to Infants" held in Montreal, Canada. Many qualified in-
dividuals requested support, and after a careful review, the scholar-
ship committee granted awards of varying degrees to all those who ap-
plied to the scholarship program.
