[afro-nets] IHP travelling faculty position opening

International Honors Program travelling faculty position opening
----------------------------------------------------------------

International Honors Program (IHP) will be launching a new pro-
gram in Spring 2006! IHP on Health and Community will offer par-
ticipants an opportunity to develop an understanding of the many
factors that influence how individuals and groups respond to the
health consequences of their genetic, environmental and social
circumstances.

The students and future health care leaders who participate in
this program will acquire the tools to develop a global frame-
work within which to deal with these problems. The courses will
create a framework for understanding systems that impact health
on local, national, historic and international levels. This per-
spective will allow future leaders in the field to ask appropri-
ate questions, and to set priorities for providing care -- now
and for the next generation, for ourselves and in collaboration
with local and international neighbours.

The comparative international program will visit four sites:
Boston, South Africa (Cape Town), India (Kerela), and China
(Beijing).

IHP is currently seeking faculty candidates for this program. It
would be of great help to have you share the faculty job an-
nouncement (below) with individuals or networks who might have
an interest and qualifications for the position.

Please refer any questions to IHP mailto:info@ihp.edu

Thank you.

Job Announcement
Travelling Faculty in Health and Community

The International Honors Program (IHP) in affiliation with Bos-
ton University offers a series of international comparative
study abroad programs. We are currently seeking 2-3 individuals
to join an interdisciplinary team of faculty and host country
coordinators for "IHP Health and Community," a four month long
program that will take up to 30 students from upper tier liberal
arts colleges and universities to South Africa, India, and
China. The 2006 program begins in Boston in mid-January and ends
in Beijing in mid-May.

The program is designed for students who are interested in con-
sidering the complex issues of health care on a global scale.
The courses will create a framework for understanding systems
that impact health on local, national, historic and interna-
tional levels. This perspective will allow future leaders in the
field to ask appropriate questions, and to set priorities for
providing care -- now and for the next generation, for ourselves
and in collaboration with local and international neighbours.

The program is made up of a series of complementary formal
courses, homestays, guest lectures, site visits, and meetings
with NGOs, neighbourhood organizations and community activists.
Four courses will be offered: The Stuff of Life: Birth, Aging,
Mental Health and Disease, Culture and Health Care, Globaliza-
tion and Health: Political, Historic and Economic Forces, and
Anthropology: Basic Field Studies and Community Assessment.

The ideal candidate should:
a.) have a Ph.D. in a relevant topic area and experience teach-
ing at the college level;

b.) be able to teach one or more courses as listed above;

c.) have research/consulting experience with health issues in
some part of the developing world (specific experience in South
Africa, India, China desired, but not required);

d.) possess not only the appropriate technical skills to manage
a field course, but the sensibilities (flexibility, adaptabil-
ity, collegiality, cultural sensitivity, etc.) necessary for
such an endeavor.
