[afro-nets] JHPIEGO & WHO Male Circumcision Clinical Training Course in Africa

Dear Colleagues:

Please see the attached final announcement and call for applications of the Male Circumcision Clinical Training Course in Africa, sponsored by JHPIEGO and the WHO, which will be held in Lusaka, Zambia from March 3-14, 2008. The course is based on the WHO manual Male Circumcision under Local Anaesthesia, and will be conducted by JHPIEGO facilitators who are experienced MC providers as well as master trainers.

We draw to your attention that the course is fee-based, and that tuition (which includes lodging, breakfast and lunch, airport and training related ground transportation within Zambia and other training related costs), is set at US$3,200 per participant. Round trip airfare to Lusaka, visa costs and dinners are not included. The WHO will provide a limited number of full scholarships to eligible participants, covering tuition costs, as well as air travel and other non-tuition expenses.

Applications for scholarships should be submitted along with other application requirements. Priority for scholarships will be given to applicants whose governments have confirmed interest in scaling up MC services, and who have demonstrated a keen ability and willingness to become MC trainers, and to use the new skills acquired to set up and expand MC services in their home countries.

Registration is limited to 16 participants, and applications are due by February 15, 2008.

We encourage applications from country teams, and request that team applications be accompanied by a team nomination letter from the Ministry of Health.

Please send inquiries, requests for clarifications and application material to Chris Merriam at mailto:cmerriam@jhpiego.net.

Best,
