Faculty Positions- University of Liberia School of Pharmacy

Pharmaceutical Systems Africa, Liberia, is recruiting for academic positions at the School of Pharmacy, University of Liberia. Pharmaceutical Systems Africa, with funding from developmental partners, has embarked on strengthening the existing pharmacy course by instituting a new curriculum, streamlining the student recruitment process, establishing professional development programs, identifying candidates for higher degrees abroad and employing expatriates in the interim to staff existing positions at the School of pharmacy.

Technical support for this process is provided through an initial grant from the Global Fund to Fight AIDs, Tuberculosis and Malaria's Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) mechanism.

1. Dean

In collaboration with the Vice President, Health Sciences and Development Partners, the Dean will provide oversight and leadership for the vision, design, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of the new phase of the pharmacy program at the University of Liberia. The Dean will also ensure the implementation of a newly revised pharmacy curriculum, coordinate, prepare and deliver lectures; guide and assess students; organize and supervise clinical placement of students; participate in the selection of students; design, conduct and supervise research activities related to the rational and safe use of medicines; and other responsibilities as recommended by the Vice President, Health Sciences, University of Liberia.

Qualifications

PhD (preferred), PharmD or Masters degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences An advanced qualification in Management Studies (certificate, diploma or postgraduate degree) Minimum of five years practice experience Experience in research and publication; in teaching pharmacy students and in managing a pharmaceutical department/ program in a recognized institution of higher learning
Proficiency in writing and speaking English Proficiency in the use of computer applications for word processing, spread sheets, internet, email, presentations and statistical analysis Ability to design and develop training curricula and course materials Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work as part of a team Strong organization, project management and group facilitation skills Familiarity with Educational Quality Assurance Systems and Pharmacy Course Accreditation
Qualifications Framework or other similar systems in WAHO region will be an added advantage

2. Lecturers/Assistant/Associate Professors [3 positions]

The pharmacy lecturer/assistant/associate professor will ensure implementation of the revised curriculum; prepare and deliver lesson plans; guide and assess students; organize and supervise clinical placement of students; participate in the selection of students for the course; and design, conduct and supervise research activities related to the rational and safe use of medicines and other responsibilities as recommended by the Dean and Vice President, Health Sciences.

Qualifications

PhD, PharmD or Masters degree in Pharmacy or Pharmacotherapy
Minimum of five years practice experience
Experience in teaching pharmacy students in a recognized institution of higher learning
Experience in collaborative or independent research and publishing
Proficiency in writing and speaking English
Proficiency in the use of computer applications for word processing, spread sheets, internet, email, presentations and statistical analysis
Ability to design and develop training curricula, modules and course materials
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work as part of a team
Strong organization, project management and group facilitation skills
