Job posting: Country Manager - Mozambique

This position is based in Maputo, Mozambique, with an initial
two-year contract.
The organization:
The Burnet Institute is the only Australia NGO that focuses ex-
clusively on health. The Institute's Centre for International
Health (CIH) works primarily in the Asia/Pacific Region support-
ing national, regional and sectoral strategic planning, policy
development and the design and implementation of projects rang-
ing from small community-based to large multi-sectoral programs.
Current CIH program are located in Mozambique, Laos, Burma, In-
donesia, PNG, the Pacific, Tibet Autonomous Region, and China.
The Mozambique program:
The CIH has been supporting HIV prevention activities with a lo-
cal organization in Manica province since 2000. However, in
2004, this work will be significantly expanded through the de-
sign and implementation of a 5-year capacity building program
that will seek to build the technical and institutional capacity
of Mozambican organizations involved in the response to HIV in
Manica.
The position:
You will be responsible for implementation and management of the
Burnet program in Mozambique. This will involve the establish-
ment of a Burnet office in Maputo and Manica, recruitment and
ongoing management and development of staff, development and ap-
plication of effective program and office management systems and
procedures, management of government, donor and partner rela-
tionships and involvement in national networks. As this program
is also part of a 5-country regional program there will also be
regional responsibilities and travel. We are looking for an in-
dividual with five to ten years experience working in the health
and development sector preferably in Mozambique or Southern Af-
rica. You will have a postgraduate qualification in public
health or a relevant field. You will be an experienced manager
with proven leadership, team building, verbal and written commu-
nication, networking and interpersonal skills. You will be prob-
lem solver, flexible, pragmatic and patient.
