Medical Doctor / Senior Medical Researcher

The Reproductive Health Research Unit in Durban, South Africa is
looking for an experienced Medical Researcher to coordinate two com-
plimentary studies in the area of antenatal care and STDs.

The two studies are:

- WHO antenatal care syphilis study;

- Involving males in their partner s antenatal and postpartum care;
  impact of family planning use and the prevention of sexually trans-
  mitted infections at six months postpartum.

The ideal candidate will be a senior researcher with experience in
reproductive health, obstetrics and gynaecology or family / community
medicine.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

- Setting up the study; site preparation; management and coordination
  of both projects;
- Planning and implementing project interventions;
- Data management; analysis; report writing and dissemination.

Essential Job Requirements:

- Masters or postgraduate medical qualification;
- Extensive research experience;
- Proven writing skills;
- Computer skills;
- Ability to work with minimal supervision;
- Reproductive health experience;
- Experience of working / conducting research in a clinical setting;
- Management experience;
- Drivers licence.

Preferred Job Requirements:

- Family planning or STD experience;
- Public health / epidemiology training or experience.

Post will be available in January 2000 and the project site will be
in the Pietermaritzburg area. Contract will be available for two
years in the first instance.
