Institute of Urban Primary Health Care, Alexandra Clinic, Johannesburg
A person with research experience is urgently being sought by the In-
stitute of Urban Primary Health Care, to undertake research on the
quality of care for children infected and affected by HIV / AIDS.
Research objectives:
* Research and develop minimum standards of care for children infected
and affected by HIV / AIDS
* Identify the gaps in care provided at different sites
* Identify the processes and actions that need to be taken in order to
achieve minimum standards of care
* Estimate the costs of achieving the minimum standards of care in dif-
ferent care settings
Job Profile:
* Participatory and qualitative research experience
* A degree in the social or health sciences
* Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision
* A primary health-care background or working knowledge thereof
* An interest in and/or knowledge of HIV/AIDS and child care issues
* Experience of working in, or knowledge of the CBO / NGO environment
* Be prepared to travel extensively in South Africa
* Computer literate
* A drivers license is essential
Job Description:
* Undertake primary and secondary research on quality of care according
to the terms of reference and the proposal developed by the IUPHC
* Manage all the aspects of the research including the development of
research protocols, undertake field visits, consult with stakeholders,
run feedback sessions
* Be responsible for analysis, write-up and authorship of the final re-
port
* The applicant would be the sole researcher on the project
* Consult and report to the Research Co-ordinator of IUPHC
Salary: The post is at the level of a Senior Researcher in accordance
with IUPHC's classifications.
Duration: Seven months full time, beginning February, 2000
