Having read your query regarding bringing South African youths who are
HIV+ to the US, I must reply...
While I am very sympathetic with your intent, I seriously question what
good this will do for these kids in their lives? Would they not be far
better off with some proper nutrition, or a more permanent arrangement
for housing in South Africa?
I have written for years on the politics of AIDS in Africa, and I rec-
ognise the marginality of their existence. A couple of weeks in the US
will certainly bring some joy into their lives, but then what? There is
so much despair in Africa already because of the void which remains af-
ter some "good" project has been completed, it would be a shame to com-
pound it with these individuals.
Just my thoughts....you are to be commended for a noteworthy idea.
