The WHO/UNICEF Joint Programme on data management and mapping for pub-
lic health *HealthMap* is pleased to announce its new Web pages:

The overall objective of the HealthMap Programme is to promote and im-
plement the use of mapping and GIS as an operational tool for planning,
monitoring and managing public health programmes of priority to na-
tional Ministries as well as to WHO, UNICEF and key agency partners.
HealthMap is servicing at national and global levels, the technical re-
quirements of a diverse range of tropical disease programmes, including
the Guinea Worm Eradication Programme, the Onchocerciasis Control Pro-
gramme (OCP) in Africa, the African Programme on Onchocerciasis Control
(APOC), the WHO Alliance for the Elimination of Trachoma and the Afri-
can Trypanosomiasis Programme. HealthMap has also initiated projects
with the Malaria Control Programme and the Filariasis Elimination Pro-
gramme.

Other public health applications supported by HealthMap include use of
GIS for health systems strengthening, for monitoring of immunisation
activities, urban mapping and monitoring equity to health and health
care.
