NGOs and Health Sector Reform (3)
---------------------------------

Thank you for your interesting communication. I would be keen to see
the whole report! This is just to let you know that there is an ini-
tiative in Zimbabwe bringing together at national level the main
(about 20) national and local MEMBERSHIP BASED civic organisations
(unions, small scale farmers, women, residents, churches, disabled
people, human rights groups etc.) called the 'Community Working
Group on Health' to discuss their views and be informed about health
and health service issues, to create more meaningful interaction with
local and national health providers, public, traditional and private
and to enhance public participation in technical and governance as-
pects of health. Its only about a year old but if there is interest
in this let me know and it is possible to e-mail some of the reports
of the work to date.

Further a rather embryonic network called the 'Southern African net-
work on Equity in Health' has as one of its goals enhancing the
analysis and integration of social capital and participation in
health and health services. Again there is a bibliography that can be
e-mailed and members are welcomed!

In both cases requests for information can be sent to:
<TARSC@ICON.CO.ZW>

Finally, our national Public Health Advisory Board in Zimbabwe is
currently being reviewed to strengthen its relevance, roles and rep-
resentativeness in relation to 'stakeholder' participation in health.
It would be very interesting to hear whether such national structures
exist providing for provider, professional, civil society (community)
purchaser participation in standard setting, audit and policy input
and co-ordination in health and if so how it is structured and oper-
ates. Any feedback???
