Positions for Virologists
-------------------------
Source: HealthNet.Zimbabwe
Dear Friends,
We have been having exciting times at the WHO-AFRO providing
laboratory diagnostic service for disease surveillance and
epidemic control in Africa. The first 3 years were for estab-
lishing a polio laboratory network, now we are consolidating
and expanding, and we need additional staff. We are looking
for one or two virologists, with experience in disease inves-
tigations and laboratory diagnosis IN AFRICA and on Africa's
major problems (polio, measles, yellow fever, Lassa fever,
Ebola Haemorrhagic fever, Rift Valley fever and a host of
other unknowns). You may pitch in meningitis and any other
"mysterious" diseases that come out from nowhere and at odd
times.
The job calls for a lot of unscheduled, unplanned travels,
difficulties in communications and well, occasional frustra-
tions. We are looking for dedicated, virologists with mission-
ary streak, and humanitarian zeal. One who wishes to be rele-
vant to the needs of Africa. Our conditions of service could
be good, and is indeed better than we have with most African
government establishments. But that is not the excitement. The
virologist will feel satisfied and accomplished in serving the
great majority of our people in rural Africa, who suffer the
greatest from these devastating, but preventable epidemics.
