Recruiting doctors from poor countries... (2)
---------------------------------------------
When we talk of the brain robbery, do we also consider the poor
living standards these doctors are exposed as opposed to attrac-
tive packages offered by institutions in the first world? Do we
train our people with their future in mind or we just train them
for completion and then pay them 100 USDs a month after 5-6 years
of medical training? Is this attractive or encouraging to the ex-
tent to keep our young graduates home, where in most cases they
would love to stay for life long? Or do we send them abroad for
graduate courses or to specialise thinking that after the expo-
sure and the offers they may receive out there, they will come
back to Africa?
These are but some of the few questions we may want to think and
possibly find reasonable solutions, unless with the globalisation
Africa may suffer a serious "brain escapade" to green pastures..!
