Requests for Information about HIV/AIDS Prevention
--------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends,

Hello, and great to hear from everyone asking about HIV/AIDS materi-
als and medical supplies! I have some info I will post in case it has
not been already, and also mention UNAIDS as a source of materials on
HIV/AIDS. There is a place called REMEDY (in the USA), which donates
surplus medical equipment and supplies to various countries; they can
be reached by accessing their website at:
http://www.remedynet.org

We at KAIPPG don't actually supply those materials ourselves (though
we are looking for them!); I was posting for someone who had written
to me, as I wanted to know myself. It would be great to know where
folks can get materials which various religious communities put out
about HIV/AIDS, and I will ask some colleagues and post about the re-
sults. There is a CD-ROM available from Global Strategies for
HIV/AIDS Prevention, called " Women, Children, and HIV: Resources for
Prevention and Treatment", which contains over 5,000 pages of text
about prevention, treatment, and care. Please contact them at:
mailto:GlobalHIV@aol.com
and
http://www.GlobalStrategies.org

Other suggestions (for Kenya in particular) include Ukweli Video Pro-
ductions at <ukweli@wananchi.com> , and the Youth Resource Center of
Worldview Kenya at <worldview@iconnect.co.ke> (this from Dominique
Marchand at Handicap International). For literature on children's
rights, I can try to find that out -- as I and others have been work-
ing on such projects regarding HIV/AIDS legislation -- and I will
post on that subject separately. Another suggestion is by Fred Ka-
kaire in Uganda: an NGO in the USA called SatelLife might help, and
they can be reached through their website at:
http://www.healthnet.org

There is also an individual who has some materials which may or may
not be available any longer (I believe these are faith-oriented); I
will not mention her name here (so as to protect the innocent,
haha!), but please contact me and I will pass the names along to her
(or please let me know if that material is still available, QQ!). And
see suggestions below about NPIN/Johns Hopkins, kindly provided by
Dr. Hassan Danesi.

I will try to do more checking myself, and would appreciate any post-
ings on the subject for all of us.

With many thanks and all best wishes,

Janet Feldman

The National Prevention Information Network (NPIN)

The Media/Materials Clearinghouse (M/MC) is part of the US Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) National Prevention In-
formation Network (NPIN). NPIN is the national reference, referral
and distribution service for information on the human immunodefi-
ciency virus (HIV)/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), sexu-
ally transmitted diseases (STDs), and tuberculosis (TB). All of
NPIN's services are designed to facilitate the sharing of information
and resources among people working in HIV, STD and TB prevention.

The M/MC is one of three NPIN Resource Centers, making available to
the education community the largest collection of its kind, including
thousands of pamphlets, posters, audio tapes, novelty items, training
materials, films, videos, and other media/materials designed to pro-
mote issues relating to HIV/AIDS, STDs, and TB.
