Why the course?
Managers of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) programmes are
increasingly challenged to do more with less. As financial re-
sources decline continuously, there is increasing pressure for
SRN interventions to be more efficient and effective. The role
of research, monitoring and evaluation is now critical to the
survival of most projects, beginning with design and implemen-
tation and continuing through the assessment of results.
This course has been developed to give participants hands-on
experience in utilising research and evaluation findings for
programme development and management.

Course benefits
Participants will be learn to:
- identify FP issues for research
- develop an appropriate overall research strategy
- develop fundable project proposals
- conduct both quantitative and qualitative research
- conduct systematic programme evaluation using both quantita-
tive and qualitative techniques
- conduct statistical data analysis
- interpret and utilise demographic data
- utilise research and evaluation findings in programme devel-
opment and management.

Researchers, evaluators, planners, programme officers, senior
and middle level managers working in sexual and reproductive
health and other related programmes.
Training Methodology
The CAFS training approach is flexible and incorporates a vari-
ety of training methods. These range from formal lectures or
tutorials to seminars and workshops, or to more informal on-
the-job apprenticeships and monitoring.
Formal training is tempered with group discussion and practical
fieldwork in order to yield a well-balanced approach.
Our tailor-made programmes allow the user not only to select
course content, but to choose between formal and informal ap-
proaches to training and to set parameters such as duration,
selection and use of materials, participant skills level and
training environment.
Tuition
US$ 2,790
Tuition covers administrative and instructional costs, text,
materials, supplies, health insurance, field trips, airport
pickup and drop-off and certificate awards.
Air Travel and Per Diem
Airfare, transit expenses and per diem are the responsibility
of the sponsoring organisation.
Accommodation
All participants will stay in the hotel identified by CAFS and
will abide by the booking arrangements established by CAFS and
the hotel.
Accommodation costs: 50-60 US$ per day (Bed & Breakfast).
Meals: 25-30 US$ per day.
Funding
Applicants are advised to seek financial assistance from bilat-
eral and multilateral agencies and organisations operating in
their own countries such as USAID, CIDA, UNFFA, FAO, and GTZ.
In order to reserve a place in one of CAFS' courses, it is ad-
visable to indicate confirmed funding at least six weeks before
commencement of the course. Bilaterally funded participants are
advised to ensure that payments are made by the sponsoring
agency before the training programme begins.
