RFI: Effects of HIV/AIDS on the Public Sector (3)
-------------------------------------------------
Dear Mila,
One issue that has been documented is the impact of lack of ac-
cess to anti-retroviral meds for midwives, nurses and other
health workers, all of whom are dying of AIDS faster than they
can be replaced. This exacerbates an already horrible tragedy by
depleting the ranks of health workers essential for community
work and prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
For example, see this SAHIMS article on Zambian nurses:
http://www.sahims.net/countries/Zambia/editorial/review_zam_18_06_03_m_copy(1).htm
SAHIMS (Southern Humanitarian Information Network, a project of
the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs).
