RFI: Peer Education Materials for Commercial Sex Workers (2)
------------------------------------------------------------
The following Request for Information (RFI) was posted on November
29th. Unfortunately, our server went down the same day and we only
got connected again on December 2nd. All incoming mail in this short
time-period somehow got deleted (in the server) and this would in-
clude any mail that may have been sent to my AMREF e-mail address in
relation to this RFI. So perhaps, if possible, you can post this RFI
once again?
Thanking you in advance,
Masuma Mamdani

RFI: Peer Education Materials for Commercial Sex Workers
--------------------------------------------------------
In collaboration with Family Health International (FHI) and Popula-
tion Services International (PSI), Tanzania, AMREF is implementing a
research study in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with a focus on increasing
the uptake of male and female condoms amongst commercial sex workers
and their male clients by putting in place a peer education strategy
and by identifying effective ways of reaching out to their male cli-
ents.
We are now in the process of identifying available IEC materials for
sex workers (bar maids), and supporting materials for their peer edu-
cators that can be easily adapted to study target population. Peer
educators will be typically providing information on facts pertaining
to HIV/AIDS/STIs, consistent use of male and/or female condoms, ap-
propriate management of STIs, VCT and negotiating for safer sex.
I should appreciate it very much if anyone can provide us with
information on organizations/programmes in the African region that
have been working with commercial sex workers and which may have IEC
materials that can be of use to us.
Many thanks,
Masuma Mamdani
Senior Programme Coordinator, AMREF
