RFI: Public Health Degree trough Distance Education (4)
-------------------------------------------------------
Dear Godfrey,
This is something that we had looked into as a unit last year.
There are a number of options available and I would suggest that you
follow up with the Thusano School of Public Health. This is a group of
Universities in South Africa and you can contact the secretariat on fax
+27-12-328-6040. They have a large number of short courses, Diploma's
and Master Degrees but are largely conducted through part time course
work.
MEDUNSA University also is offering Masters Degree in Public Health.
Contact Geoff at <Geoffrey_Setswe@embanet.com> for more details on
this. This has the advantaged of doing many of the courses via Internet
with some block courses.
You must be aware that most Distance Education courses including those
in South Africa are not cheap. Courses such as those offered from the
London School, John Hopkins etc. seem to be out of touch with the needs
of personnel in developing countries from a cost perspective. You would
therefore need to look around for areas of external funding, the re-
quests for such which frequently appear on AFRO-NETS.
