RFI: Stories on TB and Human Rights
-----------------------------------
WANTED!!!: Stories, anecdotes, experiences, case studies, etc. on the
theme 'TB and Human Rights'.
It's less than three weeks to the tb.net conference on 'TB and Human
Rights', which will be held in Kathmandu from 24-26 February 1999.
tb.net will include the usual fare of presentations and posters, but we
want to encourage less formal means of sharing experiences. Many people
have personally experienced or have heard other people describe human
rights abuses which have had an impact on people with TB. Please share
these stories with us.
During the conference we will have an area for story telling. This will
be a board for a people to write and read stories about human rights
and TB. Stories of people with HIV, refugees, prisoners, and the home-
less. Stories of people denied access to care, treated badly, and
abused.
These stories are a powerful way of communicating the truth about TB,
and the denial of human rights that characterises many societies in de-
veloped and developing countries.
If you have an anecdote, a story, or a case study, please write it
down, and send it by e-mail to <tb@mos.com.np>
We will include your stories in the conference, and publish them on the
Internet and in a booklet form. Some will also appear in the TB Ob-
server newsletter.
A few guidelines:
1. Please do not include real names of people - change them appropri-
ately so that they cannot be recognised.
2. Please only send us true stories. Fact is often stranger than fic-
tion!
3. If you do not want to be identified, please send your story anony-
mously. Otherwise, we would like to include your name and contact
details in the credits when the stories are published as a booklet
and on the Internet.
4. Keep it short! Less than 1 page is ideal
Thanks for your help - we look forward to hearing from you.
