POSITION: Deputy Area Director - Africa
The Deputy Area Director is a senior leadership position responsible
for supporting the Area Director in long-range strategic planning,
overall programmatic direction and managerial oversight of all pro-
grams and operations within Africa. The Deputy Area Director will
work with headquarters and field staff to contribute to shaping over-
all strategic directions of the agency and to seek alignment of area
programs with the overall strategic directions of the agency. S/he
will supervise certain Field Office Directors within the area and
hold them accountable for adherence to all agency programmatic and
administrative policies, including sponsorship management where ap-
plicable.
In the Africa area, Save The Children currently runs programs in
seven field offices (Sahel [Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea], Malawi,
Mozambique, Angola, Ethiopia [includes Somaliland], Sudan, and
Uganda, with limited education programming in Ghana). Program focus
includes basic education, health including reproductive health,
HIV/AIDS and child survival, and food security.
REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of seven years overseas experience, with senior management
at an assignment within Save The Children or another comparable
agency. Extensive experience in managing and directing field opera-
tions, including supervisory experience. Strong interpersonal, team
building and representational skills. Masters Degree in an area re-
lated to the work of Save The Children preferred, along with knowl-
edge of local language and culture.
