Solidarity with the people living with HIV/AID (2)
--------------------------------------------------
From our experience in Cameroon, there has been no organised use of
antiretrovirals and despite radio talks by the Minister of Health
claiming availability these ARVs are not available.
Opponents claim that the serious side effect and lack of facilities
to monitor therapy are limiting factors, which make treatment with
ARVs unnecessary.
What we are saying is that for the many AIDS patients that are die-
ing, what do they have to lose if they took these drugs and even
died, on the contrary there is hope for prolongation of life. This
added to syndromic management, if appropriately provided, will con-
stitute good care.
We therefore vote in support of MSF's demand for drop of lawsuit by
the 39 pharmaceutical companies against the S. African government.
Thank you.
