Supercourse Newsletter, December 5, 2000 - Supercourse CD-ROM
-------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.pitt.edu/~super1/

Dear Friends,

We will be sending out the CD in about a week. We cannot send the CDs
to people who we do not have a complete address. If you would like to
receive it and you have not sent to us your address yet, please send
us your name and mailing address to <super3@pitt.edu>. If you already
did it in the last weeks, you do not need to send it again.

[Please do not hit the return button to send your request. It will go
to AFRO-NETS and we are no longer forwarding these messages. DN Mod.]

We have finished the Supercourse CD, and it is beautiful. We need to
thank Akira, Benjamin, Eugene, Fan, Faina, Beatriz, and especially
Eun Ryoung and Geoff for their efforts. We, of course, most appreci-
ate you, the Supercourse faculty for providing lectures and distrib-
uting the CD. We are now having 1,200 CDs pressed, and these will be
sent to the people who have joined the Supercourse group and with a
valid postal address. For those who are in the US you should receive
the CDs in about 2 weeks, and for those outside the US, it will take
2-4 weeks.

The CD is quite nice. You put the CD into your computer, and it will
ask you if you would like to install it. It would be good if you in-
stalled it, as if you want to take it off, you can easily. Once in-
stalled, it will put an icon on your main menu for you to click into.

This version of the Supercourse has features so that you can easily
navigate the lectures, and find the lectures you need. In addition,
as it is on your hard drive, it is lightning fast, and you can di-
rectly use the hyperlinks as well if you are connected to the web.

There are 212 lectures that you can use for free. These can be used
directly off your computer, printed out, or brought into PowerPoint.

We will be asking you to register in near future as we will continu-
ously update the lectures. For example, now we have about 285 lec-
tures available. We will be planning to send new lectures to you as
attachments so that you can have these new lectures directly into the
Supercourse file in your computer.

The size of the file will not be too big, so there should not be much
difficulty in loading this on your hard drive.

When we translate the course into different languages you will be no-
tified.

All this is provided for free. We require, however, that you distrib-
ute the CD around to your students especially, your friends (even
your chairperson) and your department. Please distribute this to as
many people as you can. The only additional requirement is that the
lectures are not sold. We apologize, but we cannot send more than one
CD to you as we do not have the resources. Please copy the course
onto your hard drive, and distribute the CD that we sent to you.

We are thrilled with the product and hope you like it also. We very
much would like feedback from you so we can improve upon the lectures
in Supercourse, version 2.0. Thanks for your help. Please send com-
ments to <super3@pitt.edu>.
