Supercourse Update - Limited Access Server
------------------------------------------
Dear Friends,
We received word last week that the Lancet is also interested in join-
ing with the concept of the limited access server. We thus have JAMA,
the Lancet, the Journal of Neurology, and very likely the Nature jour-
nals. The way this will be accomplished is simple. Each will identify a
set of countries to which to open up their journals, and will look for
the country at the end, e.g. gh (ghana). The advantage of this approach
is that it is simple as any server can do it. It is a little more re-
strictive than we would like but probably the best starting out. I am
trying to decide upon the best strategy now that we have some of the
top journals. I would like to approach Science, but also approach the
journals in my field, Epidemiology and Public Health. I would appreci-
ate your thoughts, and interest in helping to push this forward. Please
respond to <rlaporte@vms.cis.pitt.edu>
The interest in the Supercourse continues to grow. There are now a to-
tal of 1,107 faculty members participating from 101 countries. Many
people continue to indicate their willingness to provide lectures for
the Supercourse and we hope to announce several new lectures in the
next newsletter. We are currently updating the lecturer file and would
like to ask those of you who are planning on submitting a lecture to
the Supercourse to please send an email to <debaaron+@pitt.edu> with
your lecture topic and approximately when you plan on submitting the
lecture.
Just yesterday, Akira successfully defended his doctoral dissertation.
The title of his dissertation is "The Internet and the Globalization of
Public Health Education". He will receive his Ph.D. in Epidemiology.
Congratulations Akira!
