The brain drain (7)
-------------------
Dear All,
While I agree that Africa starts putting measures in place to reverse
the brain drain, I hold an opposing view to Dr. Vitalis about asking
international organisations to subsidise the salaries of African pro-
fessionals. African countries have the potential to pay their profes-
sionals to a comfortable level if mismanagement of the state re-
sources can be curbed. So we cannot expect good pay packages in cor-
rupt countries. We cause our own problems and look at the interna-
tional committee for help; peacekeeping forces, debt cancellation and
now to subsidise our salaries. Then we turn around and talk of neo-
colonialism. Africa has to learn to solve its problems by itself.
