The MRC Laboratories, The Gambia is the Medical Research Council's largest establishment conducting laboratory, field based and clinical research in a developing country. The Unit aims to improve the health of people in developing countries by contributing to the development, testing and safe adoption of interventions aimed at reducing the burden of morbidity and mortality from infectious diseases.
We seek an experienced Research Clinician to be responsible for the organisation and the management of the recruitment of paediatric patients from peripheral health centres as well as from the MRC clinical facilities into studies conducted by the malaria research programme. As part of the community based studies conducted by the malaria research programme, the post holder may have to provide clinical services to the communities under study, which may involve short-term deployment outside Fajara.
We seek someone with:
? MB, BS, or equivalent medical qualification.
? Minimum of three years post-graduate experience, with preference given to paediatric and general medicine.
? Good record keeping skills.
? Basic training on GCP/ICH guidelines.
? Excellent written and spoken English.
? Excellent communication skills.
? Experience of supervising staff.
? The ability to deal sensitively with the patients.
? Interest in clinical research into diseases of the tropics, particularly malaria.
? Willingness to be on-call and work outside the normal working hours.
Although not essential Part 2 FWACP and good IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access) would be an advantage.
The minimum total salary package for the post will be 458, 558 Dalasis per annum. If you have your full FWACP your minimum total salary package will be 550, 033 Dalasis per annum. For displaced staff the package will include displacement allowances, rent-free furnished accommodation, flights, contribution to school fees and shipment of personal effects. The appointment will be for 2 years initially.
