Program Director - R&D Policy

*R4D is recruiting a Program Director to lead and coordinate the Center for Global Health R&D Policy Assessment*. R4D has been awarded a multi-year grant by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to conduct independent assessments of new policy ideas aimed at accelerating the development of drugs, vaccines, diagnostics, and other health technologies for neglected diseases.

*Main Responsibilities:*
The Program Director for the Center for Global Health R&D Policy Assessment will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the project, including the work of R4D staff and partners who are engaged to carry out specific pieces of policy analysis. His/her accountabilities will include:
- Developing, implementing, and monitoring project work plans, budgets, and related planning documents
- Formulating and implementing a strategic direction for the program
- Hiring, supervising and mentoring project staff and consultants
- Fostering collaborative relationships with other policy research organizations and global health R&D funding organizations
- Carrying out pieces of analysis on important, complex R&D policy topics
- Producing and/or commissioning other studies as required
- Overseeing and providing input to the writing and preparation of slide decks, draft reports, and other outputs from the project
- Organizing consultations with key stakeholders, in larger public and smaller confidential settings
- Monitoring and facilitating the execution of deliverables by collaborating partner institutions, as stipulated in the contracts between R4D and the partners
- Presenting preliminary and final results and recommendations to internal and external audiences
- Supervising project expenditures and the development and submission of progress reports to the project funder(s)
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following qualifications:
• An advanced degree in business, public policy, life science, or economics plus 7 to 10 years of experience in a demanding professional environment.
• Experience in working in global health; specific knowledge of R&D challenges for global health technologies or health product development is preferred.
• Recognized and proven high performing project manager with a commitment to excellence and a strong sense of responsibility.
• Highly skilled at juggling multiple balls, developing and meeting milestones, and creatively solving problems.
• Thrives in a fast paced environment and loves the challenge of inventing new paths forward.
• Excellent communicator – both written and oral – with a high degree of self-confidence.
• Team-oriented and collaborative yet comfortable working independently.
