Virology Africa 2005: Call for Abstracts

On behalf of the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular
Medicine of the University of Cape Town and the Poliomyelitis
Research Foundation, we are pleased to invite you to Virology
Africa 2005 at the Cape Town Waterfront.
NEW DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS: Before Monday 18 July
2005
Abstracts should be submitted to:

There will be some fellowships for students presenting and sen-
ior students are encouraged to submit abstracts. Abstract should
be laid out as follows:
* Centre the title in capital letters at the top of the page
* Thereafter state your names & affiliation (upper/lower case)
* Thereafter type the body of the abstract, using single spacing
* If possible, please use Times New Roman, font size 12
* Please leave 2.5cm margins on all sides
* Abstract should be no more than 1 x A4 page long.
At the end of the abstract please state:
* Presenting author�s name, address, email, telephone and fax
number
* Preferred method of presentation i.e. poster or oral presenta-
tion
* Presenting author � registered student or not
VENUE AND DATES:
This conference will take place at the UCT Graduate School of
Business and the Breakwater Lodge, Victoria and Alfred Water-
front, Cape Town, from the evening of Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 No-
vember 2005.
The third announcement, which will include a provisional pro-
gramme, registration & accommodation forms, will be sent out in
August 2005. As the venue has a limited capacity, early regis-
tration - before 30 September - is advised.
The ACADEMIC PROGRAMME will include plenary-type presentations
from internationally recognised speakers. It is intended that
the programme should cover the widest possible spectrum of vi-
rology in Africa. Topics will include (but will not be limited
to) HIV/AIDS, vaccinology, emerging and special pathogens, vet-
erinary virology, viral immunology, viral epidemiology, viruses
and cancer, plant and insect and fungal viruses, and molecular
mechanisms of pathogenesis. The venue will allow for parallel
workshops of oral presentations. There will also be poster ses-
sions. Senior students will be encouraged to present their re-
search. The preliminary programme will be posted on the Web well
in advance of the conference.

tist to speak at the conference or if you wish to organise a
specialist workshop as part of the conference, please contact
