E-DRUG: Announcement

The Aga Khan Foundation is seeking a health professional to serve as Project
Manager for an Essential Pharmaceutical Management and Financing Project in
Gorno-Badakhshan, Tajikistan. Duties include:

1. Introducing and supporting policy changes that encourage the rational use of
pharmaceuticals;
2. Managing and monitoring the development, implementation and evaluation of
the project including the piloting of policies, management and financing
schemes, training of local officials and defining and testing ways to increase
community involvement in health service management, delivery and financing;
3. Developing training modules and managing training programs;
4. Defining and implementing information, education and communication
interventions to promote greater awareness of rational pharmaceutical use;
5. Contribute to defining and managing a process of policy dialogue and
producing and disseminating lessons learned from the project.

Qualifications:

1. Graduate degree in public health or health planning/economics and at least 5
years experience in managing health programs in developing countries;
2. A thorough knowledge of the prnciples of rational use of essential
pharmaceuticals;
3. Experience in the policies, management and use of essential pharmacetucials
in developing countries and/or experience of community-based health financing
schemes such as revolving pharmaceutical funds, the Bamako Initiative, etc.
4. Experience managing a multi-cultural team;
5. Experience in training or developing training modules for essential
pharmaceutical programs;
6. Excellent spoken and written English. Language skills in Farsi, Tajik or
Russian are desireable;
7. Willingness to work in difficult geographical and climatic areas.
