E-DRUG: Banned Drugs on sale in India
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following list of 'banned' drugs has been circulating on the internet, while they are on sale in India. Would anyone be able to please help to
verify its authenticity?

Thanks and regards.

[e-drug] Banned Drugs on sale in India (2)
-----------------------------------------

Dear friends,

All these problems have been dealt with in the pages of the WHO Drug
Information Bulletin, and if one scans the last few years of this journal
all data can easily be found. They are well documented. The only problem is that a minority of drug registration authorities have not accepted the
consequences and kept these old drugs ("skeletons" according to a quote from Andrew Herxheimer) on the market. Whether these are cases of neglicence or corruption is not always clear. Retrieve the data from the WHO archives or from the Medical Letter database and confront the authorities. Good luck.

Best wishes,

E-DRUG: Banned Drugs on sale in India (3)

This list covers globally banned drugs that are permitted to be sold in India by the Drugs Controller General, India (DCGI). New addition to the list include Human Placenta Extract, Tegaserod and Thioridazine. These drugs appear under the heading "Banned/Discarded Drugs" in every issue of MIMS (Monthly Index of Medical Specialities) published from New Delhi.

Dear Sir,

The list is very good and true. However, our health minister on the floor of parliament denied existence of globally discarded drugs (the listed ones) in replying to a question by Mrs.Brinda Carat.
