E-DRUG: Capacity development in medicines quality assurance and control
--------------------------------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
The establishment of the official Medicines Quality Control Laboratory in
Kosovo and the subsequent initiation of its activities is dependent on the
local availability of properly trained staff. This applies both to the
supervisory personnel (including the head of Laboratory) and to the analysts
who will perform the test (either single-handed or with assistance of
technicians).
Staff is being recruited from school of pharmacy but also from other
institutions specializing in various other branches. These graduates have
adequate theoretical knowledge to perform standards analytical tasks but
need a period of practical in-service training before they can be allowed to
work independently.
The possibilities for accomplishing trainings by temporary attachment of
newly recruited staff to experienced analysts for apprenticeship or their
attendance in briefing sessions on matters such as the internal organization
of the laboratory, analytical documentation and reporting and safety
measures, etc are out of the question for the case of Kosovo. We are
establishing a completely new laboratory, from zero basis.
Therefore, lack of adequately trained staff for governmental drug control is
the major obstacle in the way to fulfil programmes for improvement of the
quality of drugs in Kosovo.
Our attention is focused on group training of recent graduates. A training
that would enable to the participants to adapt readily to the requirements
of work in quality control laboratory.
In order to ensure that the training is of direct relevance to analysts, it
should be carried out in well-equipped drug control laboratory in a
developing country that has specialist in each discipline on its staff.
Therefore, I kindly ask if anyone has any information regarding the
organization of trainings in this regard, or if any one can offer such
trainings, similar experience, etc.
Best regards,
Myesere Hoxha-Lamaxhema,
Head of OLMQC
