E-DRUG: Codeine classification

Dear All
I am a pharmacist based in the UK and am currently involved in an EU funded project looking at Codeine Use, Misuse and Abuse. Part of the project requires us to outline the legal classification of codeine in terms of its OTC and prescription supply in countries around the world
Whilst this sounds a fairly simple task, by for instance accessing various websites from the respective countries, it is proving to be far from it.
I wondered if you were from a country outside of the UK, would you mind providing any information that you may have about your country's codeine status. References to official documents/legislation would be very much appreciated
just to clarify we need:
can it be sold OTC - if so are there any restrictions
can it be prescribed - if so are there any restrictions?
