A study was conducted in Nine Terai (Plains) districts of Nepal to identify
household's drug stock and knowledge of the drugs. Twenty-nine percent of
households had stock of one or other drugs.Of them, 39 % of households had
stock of antibiotics. Similarly, 22% of households had antipyretic-analgesics,
17% had stock of vitamin/tonics, 11% had stock of cough preparations and only
4% had ORS. Of them, 17% had correct knowledge of using antibiotics, 14% had
correct knowledge of using antipyretic-analgesice, 33% had correct knowledge
of using ORS but none of the households had correct knowledge of using
vitamin/tonics and cough preparations. The condition of 80% of stocked drugs
was good.
