Abstract: A Study was conducted with the overall objective of
assessing knowledge of the readers of an article published on use of
drugs.

The study was randomized controlled. It was conducted in
Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts of the Kathmandu Valley. The study
included 92 households in the intervention group, and 100 in the
control group. The intervention was conducted one month after
publication of the article.

There was a significant improvement in correct knowledge of readers
on correct drugs for diarrhoea, effectiveness of cough preparations,
precautions in the use of drugs in liver and kidney disease and
interaction of rifampicin with oral contraceptives, as compared to
controls. Similarly, there was a significant improvement in good
and excellent knowledge on precautions for using drug in specific
conditions, importance of labels on drug use, time of administration
and reasons for making different dosage form.
