E-DRUG: Consumers' Guide to Safe, Cost-effective Medicin (cont'd)

E-drug: Consumers' Guide to Safe, Cost-effective Medicin (cont'd)
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi E-Druggers,

Dr. Sri Suryawati and her colleagues from Gadjah Mada University in
Yogyakarta, Indonesia, (suryawati@ins.healthnet.org) have done a lot on
developing approaches to informing consumers about medicine choices.

1. They have developed and tested an approach for facilitated group
self-learning about over-the-counter medicines, their ingredients,
and their effects, using popular drug packages and inserts as the
primary teaching tools. Descriptions of this work are available in
   English.

2. Following on this work, Dr. Suryawati developed a consumer "OTC
Formulary" for Indonesian drugs for the Ministry of Health. I am
not certain if these materials are translated, but I am sure the
approach the team took to gathering and testing materials would be
   helpful.
