Managing Drug Supply for Primary Health Care

Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Overview: Management Sciences for Health (MSH) and the
International Dispensary Association (IDA) are offering a two-week
survey course on modern management principles of drug supply
systems. It covers the major components of drug supply as well as
providing practical tools for decision-makers and managers to evaluate
the performance of their drug supply programs. The course will be of
benefit to physicians, pharmacists, senior health system managers and
technical assistance professionals for Ministries of Health,
non-governmental organizations, and donor agencies.

Content: Major topics include drug policy and regulation, selection and
quantification of drugs, procurement methods and strategies, quality
assurance, kit distribution, financing drug supply, store management,
inventory control, rational drug use, drug management information
systems, and indicator-based assessments.

Lecturers are recruited from MSH and IDA, as well as invited guest
lecturers with extensive experience in essential drugs program
management.

Fees and costs: The total fee of US$3900 includes transfer to and
from the airport, hotel accommodation (single occupancy), three meals
a day during the week, breakfast during the weekend, coffee and tea
during course breaks, tuition, books and materials, field trips.
Sponsoring agencies are responsible for obtaining health insurance for
their participants, and participants are responsible of obtaining their
own visas for The Netherlands.

Confirmation: Course space is allocated as soon as the application is
received, and enrollment is limited. To ensure the participant's space,
IDA must receive the application and course fee before 25 August
1999. Cancellation fees apply after this date.
