E-drug: Course "Managing drug supply" (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear friends,
A couple of observations on training efforts in pharmacy and RUD:
1. One trainer per country is not sufficient, especially in a country
like India. Each State Pharmacy/medical council should come
forward.
2. Secondly, most of the MSH materials are available on the net. It
can be downloaded, depending on the need of the individual
pharmacist or curriculum.
3. Thirdly, our organisation Karnataka State Pharmacy Council
(KSPC) is taking initiatives in training pharmacists (hospital) and
doctors in various aspects in the field of rational use of drugs;
not only drug information. After DSPRUD organised training in
DTC, and in which I participated, KSPC is planing to have DTC
training for pharmacists and doctors carried out in July/August
2003 (for which the announcement has come in our bulletin).
So it depends on the person who has received the training
capable of spreading the concept and implementing a portion of
the same and not by juniors or seniors (depends on the
selection?).
4. Most trained persons in developing countries wait for an
opportunity to go to a developing country. So whenever
WHO/MSH sponsors a candidate they should put a condition
that candidates should stay in their country for a specified
period, implement partly at least in the field with which they had
the training. Other ways of looking at things are that most of the
pharmacists (both community and hospital) and even doctors
are not willing to attend the training because of the various
reasons mentioned by Geeta Pradeep. Very sad indeed.
With regards,
