Inapropriate drug donations
Dear colleagues,
We would ask your help for the following. During a recent HAI-Europe meeting in
Riga possibilities of campaigning against inappropriate drug donations were
discussed. Different organisations, like WEMOS in the Netherlands and some
Medecins Sans Frontieres sections, are preparing campaigns to prevent
inappropriate drug donations. It became clear that we lack well documented
examples. At the moment we have to use and use again the few examples from
literature and from our own experience. As we are at a important momemtum (WHO
guidelines will most likely be discussed in the World Health Assembly in May
1996) and some campaigns are prepared now (US ,UK and Netherlands) we look for
more examples. We would like to start a data-base on inappropriate drug
donations. We would like to ask you to any detailed information on inappropriate
drug donations you have. Please, be as specific as possible on quantity, kind of
drugs, reason why this donation is inappropriate, donated to and by whom,
recollected drugs or pharmaceutical industry left-overs.
Thank you very much,
Erik Schouten (Medecins Sans Frontieres, Netherlands)
