TWO YEAR FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY AT USAID/WASHINGTON AND PUBLIC HEALTH
INSTITUTE

USAID's Global Health Fellows Program is implemented by the Public
Health Institute and its partners: Harvard School of Public Health .
Management Systems International . Tulane University School of Public
Health and Tropical Medicine . United Negro College Fund Special
Programs Corporation . University of Washington School of Public Health
and Community Medicine. The Program's aim is to improve the
effectiveness of USAID's Population, Health and Nutrition programs
overseas.

Pharmaceutical Management Advisor

USAID/Washington, DC

The Pharmaceutical Management Advisor (PMA) will be responsible for
providing the Health Systems Division with technical and managerial
assistance in the implementation of the Rational Pharmaceutical (RPM)
Plus Program and the US Pharmacopeia Drug Quality and Information
(USPDQI) Program. Key responsibilities include: contributing to
strengthening Health, Infectious Disease, and Nutrition (HIDN)
approaches and strategies and enhancing health system performance in the
delivery of PHN priority interventions in reproductive, maternal,
neonatal, and child health, HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases by
improving overall pharmaceutical management, product quality assurance
and pharmacoviligance and pharmaceutical information activities;
providing technical guidance to the antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
component of USAID Infectious Disease Strategy by supporting technical
efforts and interventions to combat the development of resistance; help
increase awareness of growing threat posed by AMR in light of global
initiatives supplying medicines to developing countries with weak health
systems and scarce human resources. The PMA will work with USAID
missions, field offices, regional bureaus, contractors, Presidential and
global initiatives, USG agencies, and donors and contractors in
developing strategies and approaches related to pharmaceutical
management, quality assurance/pharmacovigilance, and systems
strengthening in developing countries.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Masters degree in Public Health, Pharmacy, Nursing, Hospital
Administration or related field. Clinical patient care experience is
desirable. Demonstrated ability to communicate well verbally and in
writing. Excellent organizational skills and ability to collaborate with
a variety of stakeholders; knowledge and understanding of how health
systems are organized in developing countries; and basic understanding
of developing country public health issues. Travel up to 25%. US
Citizenship required. Applicants selected will be subject to security

classified information.
