E-DRUG: generic drugs in Mexico

E-DRUG: generic drugs in Mexico (6)
-----------------------------------

In South Africa, to date the pharmacist may not substitute
generically without the prior approval of the prescriber.
However, a new ammendment bill which may be soon accepted, indicates
that the pharmacist should substitute generically wherever possible
with the following exceptions:

1. the prescriber has specifically indicated that there may be no
substitution (in his own handwriting);

2. the drug prescribed is on the Medicines Control
Council list of medicines which may not be substituted for
bioavailability reasons;

3. if the generic drug is more expensive than the drug prescribed;

4. if the patient refuses the brandname to be substituted.
