E-drug: German coding system for expiry dates (cont'd)
---------------------------------------------------
Adding to the explanation of Hans-Ruediger Elster on information
on packages of German drugs:
"Reg.Nr" means registration number of the German drug
administration (license number). "Reg.Nr." means that the drug
has been on the market already since 1978 (so-called grandfather
drugs) and has NOT been tested for safety and efficacy so far.
Drugs which have gone through the regular procedure and have
been checked for safety and efficacy by the Health Authorities, have
a "Zul.-Nr." (Zulassungs-Nummer).
This is of much importance, as more than half of drugs on the
German market are (still) grandfather drugs (approx 30,000).
If you would like to get more detailed information on this problem,
you may want to read a paper on grandfather drugs prepared by
us last year. You may request it by e-mail (address below).
