E-DRUG: Global Fund publishes obtained drug prices
--------------------------------------------------
dear E-druggers,
The Global Fund (for AIDS TB and Malaria) has added a database on its excellent website (www.theglobalfund.org) where you can download/see the prices obtained by all GFATM projects.
The "Pricing Reporting Mechanism" direct link is http://www.theglobalfund.org/en/funds_raised/price_reporting/default.asp
You can see or download (Word or Excel) the database.
Principal recipients (PR) can also upload new prices (using password protection)
A 17-page manual is available at http://pgms.synisys.com/prm/Documents/PRM%20Documents/PRM_PR_user.doc
Some caution is needed when interpreting: for example, the price of lamuvidine+zidovudine varies from 4 cents to USD 3.67 per unit!
Some data cleaning might be necessary...
But one can get interesting pieces of information, for example, all listed nevirapine 200mg tabs have been bought from generic suppliers Cipla and Ranbaxy, and not from the original company (Boehringer Ingelheim). Generic competition seems to be working!
