E-DRUG: Grandfather Drugs from Germany

E-drug: Grandfather Drugs from Germany
--------------------------------------

Announcement of a background paper

BUKO Pharma-Kampagne, a German HAI group has recently published a
paper on the subject mentioned above.

Summary:
Drugs from German companies are common in many countries around the
globe. There is a lot of uncertainty whether all these drugs are up to
modern scientific standards. One fundamental problem is that more than
half of the drugs presently on the German market have not been tested
for safety and efficacy so far. They have been on the market already
before 1978 and are called Grandfather Drugs for that reason. The
paper explains and discusses the implications of this situation. It
may give some good reasons to be cautious with manufacturers
information that a drug is licensed on the German market and with the
value of WHO-certificates issued by German authorities.
