E-drug: Improving medicines management. What works best? (cont'd)
---------------------------------------------
Dear e-druggers
There is an urgent need for the pharmacists in hospitals in
developing countries to move away from the dispensing window to the
"bedside" These professionals are sitting on a wealth of knowledge,
unused and wasted. Our attempts at Gertrudes hospital to get to the
wards and do several aspects of Pharmaceutical care were met with
hesitation initially, and eventually loved by the
physicians/pediatricians.. Our National referral hospital has
followed suit with remarkable results.
The one main hitch is that if Medicines are out of stock frequently,
what is the pharmacist going to do at the ward level? That is the
main problem which public sector pharmacists face, so, they hide
behind that dispensing window and say O/S (out of stock)!
