E-DRUG: Independent or integrated Drug Regulatory Authority? (4)
----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
Mr. Johnson, with whom I worked at SL's drug regulatory authority (DRA), the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone, is certainly right when he mentioned SL as an example of a country that runs a "quasi-government model" of regulation.
Interestingly, this particular DRA and it's overall regulatory framework was the basis of my MSc thesis titled: "Sierra Leone: An Exploratory Study of Community Pharmacy Practice and Medicines Regulation"

As you can see, particularly from the discussion and conclusion chapters, there are obviously quite a number of opportunities and challenges with this type of model, especially in small resource-limited settings such as Sierra Leone. A number of policy recommendations (short- and long term) were also included. I'm of the view that these experiences will certainly be useful in answering some of the questions raised.
If you need a copy or require me to answer some specific questions, please feel free to contact me and I'll (like Mr. Johnson) be more than happy to share our experiences with you.
